Meet Joe, an accidental customer in 2010 turned loyal customer in 2020. We had such a great time learning about his perspective on going solar and hope that you enjoy reading it too!
Q: What inspired you to start thinking about solar?
A: I started thinking about solar in 2010. I was working for a startup company in Boulder that was in energy management, and one of the things we did was show people the amount of electricity they used. The employees would sometimes test the products so we would compare our energy usage. I like to be cold, so I use a lot of AC, and I was always at the top of the usage list. I decided to go solar and ended up working with a company called Sun Run. They didn’t have their own solar installation team at the time so it was Namaste Solar that showed up to do the install.
There were no problems with Namaste Solar, and everything went great. Fast forward to 2020, we moved into a new house, and I wanted to go solar again. I talked to a couple other companies, but Namaste Solar was always going to win my business.
Q: What was your decision-making process in going solar?
A: I was in a webinar with other Namaste Solar customers once, and most people were saying that they went solar to save money. I was one of the first people to say that I wanted to save the environment. We have grandkids, and I want to leave them with a better world than we have now.
"I wanted to save the environment. We have grandkids, and I want to leave them with a better world than we have now."
Q: How has solar positively impacted your lifestyle?
A: Solar came first for us, then batteries, then a heat pump. We also have electric vehicles, and it’s so nice to charge our cars off solar when the sun is up. It feels good to know that we aren’t using “dirty” energy. The system is generating about 85% of our total usage, and it could have done more but our utility caps us at 10kW of solar. So, the brag factor is also fun.
Q: What made you choose Namaste Solar?
A: I didn’t really choose you the first time; that was an accident. But the work the installers did was top notch. They just came in and got the job done fast.
I learned that some solar companies don’t put critter guard up unless you beg them. When my son went solar with a different company they wouldn’t put the guard up, and pretty soon there were critters living under his panels. So, the fact that Namaste Solar puts critter guard up is great.
When we worked on our second project with Namaste Solar, everyone was friendly and knowledgeable and showed so much support in dealing with our not so friendly utility company.
"You're going to use the energy regardless; you might as well get it from that free gas tank in the sky."
Q: If you were trying to convince someone to go solar in three sentences, what would you say?
A: Climate change is real. We need to stop using fossil fuels and in the long run, solar will save you money as well. You’re going to use the energy regardless; you might as well get it from that free gas tank in the sky.
